“Regional Airlines Leaders in NextGen Transition”, RAA tells Congress - Wednesday, March 11, 2009

February 11, 2009- Citing regional airlines investment in “the whole alphabet” of NextGen technology, RAA President Roger Cohen said modernizing the nation’s air traffic control system would aid service to small and medium-sized communities by easing access to the nation’s busiest hub airports.

In testimony before the Aviation Subcommittee of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Cohen said the current cutback in flights provided “a time out, some breathing room to make real progress” which stakeholders have been seeking for decades. He added that despite the fact that regional aviation has been “squeezed hard from all sides”, RAA’s members were making substantial investments in a range of new technologies to make flying safer and more efficient – particularly since nearly 75 percent of U.S. communities rely exclusively on regional airlines for scheduled service.

Aviation Safety: The Role and Responsibility of Commercial Air Carriers and Employees - Wednesday, June 17, 2009

Good morning Mr. Chairman, Senator Hutchison, and Members of the Committee.  My name is Roger Cohen. I am the President of the Regional Airline Association.  Our 31 member airlines carry more than 90 percent of the passengers traveling on regional aircraft.

The circumstances that prompted the Committee to convene today’s hearing are tragic. We share the Committee’s concern for the lives of the passengers and crews that have been lost and the grief suffered by their families and loved ones.

The challenge now facing this Committee, federal aviation safety agencies, and the aviation industry is to review all of the issues and take whatever steps are necessary to prevent accidents in the future.
