RAA Calls for Leaders to Keep Safety-Enhancing Bill Provision in Place

RAA commends Chairman Thune and Blunt for including language in the FAA bill to improve pilot training and urges them to retain this language when the bill is ultimately brought to the floor. While RAA believes FAA already has discretion to approve a broader universe of safety-enhancing structured training pathways, FAA has approved only a limited number of pathways by a limited number of providers. In light of new data proving structured training pathways superior, we encourage FAA to approve more providers. Unfortunately, powerful labor unions seek to block such expansion as a means of preserving labor scarcity, distorting the facts about these proven pathways. We urge Chairman Thune and the Senate to reject this maneuvering and keep their safety-enhancing provision in place. The language sends an important message: Aviation safety regulation should be driven by empirical evidence and data, not politics or collective bargaining interests.
